Island Living... Keiki Style
Yes, we are camping again!
This time on the west side of the Big Islandat Spencer Beach Park. This place is a great place for kids to camp. There are white sand beaches, swimming, snorkeling, basketball and volleyball courts and a trail that leads to a “secret beach”. There are also shower and restroom facilities, picnic tables and BBQ grills. Everything you need to enjoy a couple days of hiking, fishing and swimming.
We go with my son’s cub scout troop and do a night hike to catch sand crabs with nets which they put in buckets and see who can catch the biggest crabs. Of course we let them all go when the boys are done comparing and it is hilarious to see the kids scurry when the crabs are released!
You need a permit to camp here and can go to https://hawaiicounty.ehawaii.gov/to get one.
This photo is of the “secret beach” that you can hike to. It’s “secret” so you are on your own to find the trail entrance. Happy Trails!
