Boar Hunting: A Hawaiian Tradition
Wild pigs were first brought to the Hawaiian Islands by the Polynesians hundreds of years ago, and as they have no natural predators except man and dogs, they have flourished. Through the years they have interbred with some domestics and russian boars to create quite a sizable and ferocious game animal.
One can obtain a hunting license ($10.00/year for residents) that allows you to hunt 1 pig per day for a year! So virtually no limit! You can hunt all different ways for them; still hunting, stalking, snares and traps, and even with packs of dogs and a knife. My favorite way is to go out to my friends 14 acre Avocado orchord and wait for them to sneak in at dusk. My preferred gun is a shotgun loaded with bucksot, as they wait until just about dark (or just after) before quietly coming in for munchings.
It makes my day when I can provide Organic, Range-fed, Antibiotic free, and great tasting food for my family and friends. and yes, I am available for private guided hunts.
