Last May, Andrew, my beloved cat of seven years, disappeared from my family's home in Hawaii Kai. We searched for him for weeks, making daily visits to the Hawaii Humane Society and hoping that his microchip would assist in Andrew's return home. But with every trip to HHS, our faith in his homecoming was weakened by disappointed heartbreak. Until finally we began to accept he might be gone.
Four months passed and we thought of Andrew frequently, comforting the loss by imagining our cat someplace wonderful. Perhaps he was somewhere in Waimanalo, maybe he found his way to an estate on the ocean surrounded by 4 acres for him to roam on, and he'd made friends to keep him company - not just cats, but dogs, ducks and chickens as well. And maybe Andrew's new home looks just like house from Magnum P.I. - no, is the house from Magnum P.I.
Why not?
Two days ago, we received a phonecall from a woman in Waimanalo who lived in a beautiful oceanfront estate situated on 4 lush acres that she shared with her dogs, cats, ducks, and chickens. She was calling because she had found Andrew. He was safe, unharmed, and waiting at this woman's home - the house from Magnum P.I.
Andrew's journey from Hawaii Kai to Waimanalo took him over mountains and cliff roads. Exactly how this tiny creature managed to safely travel such difficult terrain will remain unknown to all but Andrew. However, his return home can be specifically attributed to his microchip and the attentive concern of a woman who cared to stop and help a little lost cat. And his family.
