Those of us who live on Maui are oftentimes convinced we have "done it all". It’s easy to be fooled by the comforts of familiarity, to allow routine to blind us to the innumerable new experiences offered by the Enchanted Isle. The fall, one of Maui’s least busy times of year, is a great time to start breaking this cycle. And I recently discovered a both inexpensive and fun way to do so.

For as long as I can remember, my husband and I have made weekly visits to the same restaurant, never wavering in our selection because it was too comfortable not to. Why consider another setting or menu than the ones we already knew we liked? Until this week when it was closed – suddenly awakening us to the unexceptional lives we were living on an island that gave us every reason not to. So my husband and I decided to try something new: we stopped at one at one of the many food trucks parked on the side of Maui roads, purchased an incredible dinner and brought it to the beach. It was one of the best times we’d had in months.

If you’re interested in visiting or learning about Maui’s food trucks, browsing “The Best of Maui” is a great place to start. This year’s winner was Geste Shrimp located on Kahului Beach Road. These mobile restaurants provide a new and exciting (not to mention delicious) approach to diversifying your routine. Not only do they offer a chance to explore culinary options, but also the settings in which to dine upon them.
