Paddle Hawaii!

Racing from Pohoiki to Kehena, a 7-mile rough water one-man race sponsored by Puna Canoe Club, happened last Saturday March 8, at 10am.  I did it in a Hurricane, built for smooth water – it was grueling!! My time was 1 hour 18 min. No stand-up paddleboards entered, only outrigger canoes 21 ft. long and weighing 21 lbs.  The next race is Kawaihae, 10-miles down the coast, Saturday the 29th of March.

This is HIPA season, Hawaii Island Paddleboard Assoc. sponsored races ending with Molokai to Waikiki. 38 mi. Regatta season practices have already started for some clubs in Hilo Bay. Come on down Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm, as well as Sundays at 9 am.
