One of the many reasons why I love the Big Island of Hawaii is its superior offerings in regard to sustainable living. I love that we have the ability to collect and eat fresh, uncontaminated local foods from the land and the sea. Breadfruit grows on a tree, and is the “baked potato of the tropics”. It Looks like a big avocado, but the inside is white and Bread/potato like. It can be prepared a variety of ways, such as by tossing it whole among coals in a campfire. One can also microwave breadfruit whole, then cut it up into chunks before frying it in olive (or coconut oil) and salt. My Favorite food from the sea is Lobster which can be harvested in season over here. These 3 were caught close to my home, just off the cliffs in Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
Delicious? Yes.
Bon Appetit!
